Goodbye online sales?

About a year ago, we transitioned from online sales to in person sales sessions. The reason for this was that, as a photographer, we am not just selling an image on paper, but rather, selling emotions and memory. Hopefully, people will look at these photos for years to come, and these photos will evoke an emotional response or memory. However, online sales take that emotion out of the equation. People tend to look through sale galleries many time before choosing the photos they want. Further, they are looking at images without context to the size they want. All this decreases that emotion that should be present when ordering photos.

Until recently, we were, however, stuck when a client lives out of town, or has family members living out of town who were included in a family portrait session, and wants to order photos as well. In order to accommodate people, we would still post photos online so that these family members could order photos. However, we still ran into the same problem where it would take weeks, and sometimes months of looking through and come to an order decision.

With our new presentation software, we now offer in-person sales, both at our studio as well as "virtual in-person sales" online. We will still setup appointments with out-of town clients and through screen sharing on Skype, can present people with meaningful sales session. We can even show clients what different size photos will look like on a wall, so that they will have a better feeling of the impact the photos they order will make.

As with most meaningful purchases, people like to actually go and see these items for themselves before purchasing, so too photographs that have meaning, memories and emotion, should be seen and presented in that way.

Giving feedback

As a photographer, I always go into a portrait session with a general idea of what I want to get. For a family portrait session, this will usually conform pretty well with what the family wants - a nice whole family group shot, as well as smaller family groupings. For senior portrait sessions, since I will have met with the senior prior to the session, I hope to have learned enough about the senior to have an idea of what he or she is looking for as well. However, it is always possible that during the session, my vision will differ somewhat from the client, or the client may not like a certain aspect of the photo that I think looks good. That is why, during the session, I provide seniors (and families) with the photos we are getting while we are shooting them. This way, clients can give me instant feedback on their thoughts, and I can make any changes to satisfy them.

The other aspect of feedback is leaving testimonials or reviews of your experience with us. We do our very best to satisfy our clients, and writing a short review will help other potential clients in their decision to (hopefully) use our services as well. We will be putting up a testimonial page soon, but reviews can also be left on our Google listing. Just click on the following address to be taken there. http://maps.google.com/maps/place?cid=12332136893548158186&q=drazen+imaging&hl=en&authuser=0&cd=1&cad=src:ppiwlink&ei=DHS2T5a2A4eSNsLp8dAG&dtab=2&action=open.
